Are spelling bee's a joke in spanish? since if you can spell a word you can say it and if you can say a word you can spell it?
Good point Peter. Just remember that there are some orthographic changes that happen and some letters make the same sound. For example: c,z,s and b,v. Also the h is silent. The c changes to qu when followed by an e. And much more. Therefore, the spelling bee isn't as much of a joke as you might think.
