Spanish 3/4:

Finished the Argentina video. Discussed the last questions and the things we want to further study about Argentina. We then discussed what culture really is and how to look at culture in two ways. The big C's show us the most common things, example is France=Eiffel Tower. The little C's are the every day experiences that make them who they are, examples are gift giving and certain gestures.

If you were gone you need to finish the packet and reflect on the 37th question. Hint: If the thing you want to study can be answered with one simple fact, then this is not the right kind of question. Example, How many people live in Argentina. A good example would be, what are the myths and legends of the Gaucho and how do they help define the Argentine culture.

Spanish 2:

Chapter 10 Packet:

Did as individuals or with partners. What was not finished in class is due tomorrow. No time will be spent on working on them in class. However, we will use them in class.

Temprano-early
Tarde-Late
Pues-well
al lado de-next to
luego-later
anoche-last night
esquina-corner
en tren-by train
cerca de-near
lejos de-far
en frente de-infront of
detrás de-behind
entre-between
ninguna-none, any
abrir-to open
quisiera-I would want
pienso-I think
fui-I went
Fuiste-you went
hicieron-They did (past tense)
cerrar-to close
hiciste-you did
bailar-to dance
saqué-I took out
pagué-I paid
llegar-to arrive

Page 10-7 of packet.
We talked about cargarzar verbs.
They change in the yo form only for AR verbs because the é ending makes the g and the c soft, but the infinitive form has a hard g and c sound. So, we have to change the spelling so the g and the c makes the same hard sound from the infinitive. With verbs ending in zar the z changes to a c because, as a general rule, there are no z words followed by e in Spanish. The only exception is the letter Z itself...zeta.

car=qué
gar=gué
zar=cé

Fourth step: With the partner you graded you work on 6-10. One person would read what they wrote and the other would follow on the map. If you got the the correct place than you moved on, if not, you both tried to figure out what when wrong and fix it.
Fifth step: As a whole group, I gave you directions to a place orally and everyone in the class followed on the map.

Period six had a homework assignment to teach this to fluency level to a parent or guardian and bring a note that states that happened. If the parent refused to help, then teach someone else. Field Trip

The restaurant was a success, but the real fun was touring Univision. We met a lot of the staff and watched them film the news. We even ended up on the new that night! A special thanks to Bob and Kelsey for hooking us up and to Sharise for snapping all these pics. (Except the one she is in, in which case I would like to thank myself for the shot...but also Sharise for the camera.)

Here we are with Bob. Jacob was in this shot until Tanner decided to get a págame for his cell phone use and covered him up.

The Univision bus was a hit. Why is Whittle hugging Tanner?

¿Qué?

I may quit teaching after discovering my new talent.

Spanish 3/4: Maddie is in surgery. Buena Suerte y que te mejores pronto.

Situational dialogue in Spanish. Students follow a restaurant scene and translate to a partner.

Discuss expectations and cultural aspects of how to treat a waiter. There job isn't to be nice, it is to get you your food. Conversations generally are short and to the point. Just talk enough to get the job done. Don't be offended!

Brainstormed possible questions to the Univision Anchors.

Restaurant Day and Univision Day.

Spanish 2:

Used a given map of a city. Learned these words to complete find the places from the plaza.

Then wrote directions to five other places. With any time left you got a partner and quizzed each other by picking a place and then give the directions to the place. Your partner had to follow along on their map, using only the directions given and see if both ended up at the same place.

Review of verbs learned yesterday. I did actions and the class said in Spanish.

Reviewed past tense endings for AR/ER/IR verbs for I and You. AR/I = é ER/IR I = í AR/You = aste ER/IR You = iste

Reviewed D.O.P.'s for it and them. lo, la = it los, las = them

Syntax = Lo comí = It I ate. We say it before we say the action in Spanish.

Then we practiced as a class answer questions with these elements: Past tense (new verbs) and D.O.P.'s. And since every question was a dónde question we had to have a city place in the answer.

Example: ¿Dónde compraste el champú? Lo compré en la farmacia.

We then broke up the class into two groups and one group was the teachers and the other group was the learners.

If you were gone you need to write 10 questions and answer those questions following the model. You may come see me for help.
